Hi all,
I’ve been MIA on this project for a really long time, and it’s definitely been nagging me! I thought I’d provide a little blog update before I start rolling out some new content.
My goal with launching this site last summer was to provide well-researched guidance to friends and family (+ anyone else who should stumble across the site). As I became more involved in the “blogosphere”, I began following more and more influencers who seemed like they may have similar objectives and target audiences. The more I followed, the more intimidating the landscape and this project became. The blogs I love also maintain a presence on Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest, use tools like Tailwind to boost followers and post performance, and employ professional photographers, graphic designers, and assistants. In spite of all the research and preparation I did before launching this site, I just started to feel overwhelmed with managing this alongside my full-time job and being a first-time mom.
I also started to feel confused about “success” looked like in this space. I have recently started to feel like a lot of the bloggers and influencers I once trusted are now haggling products and services primarily for the sake of sales commissions. My objective here has never been to just “sell stuff”, but rather to help guide important purchase decisions (for home, baby, travel) to be sure you’re optimizing every dollar. While I clearly can get carried away by my consumer propensities, I also spend hours a month maintaining both personal and household budgets on Mint, and Tom and I invest a lot of time strategizing about how we will afford the little luxuries we love (travel, eating out, our respective shopping habits) and also save for a house. I definitely would never want to encourage anyone in a similar situation to us to be wasteful about how they spend their money.
So with all of that said, I admit to feeling a little lost about what I am trying to accomplish here — but I still feel like I have a lot of helpful content I want to share. Given that, I thought it best to just be transparent about where I am and continue on from there. Hopefully my goals and purpose here will become more clear soon. I appreciate all the time friends have spent helping me to mull these points, and any recommendations here are certainly most welcome!
